Plaza Mayor. A lovely square and the administrative center of the city. It is surrounded by 16th century colonnades and flanked on the east side by an Almohad wall. |
Palacio de Godoy. Renaissance-style palace commissioned by Francisco de Godoy in 1548 with the wealth he amassed on a trip to America, accompanied by Francisco Pizarro. It has a lovely central courtyard, square in shape, and one of the most beautiful corner balconies in Caceres. |
Cathedral of Santa María.This triple-naved gothic cathedral, built in the 14th century, is situated in the Plaza de Santa Maria. It houses a stunning carved cedar altarpiece, as well as a 14th century statue of a black Christ. |
Palace of Golfines de Abajo. The residence of the Catholic Monarchs (Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castille) during their stays in the city. Architectural highlights include its medieval tower, its plateresque-style facade, and its lovely inner courtyard. |
Church of Santiago.Romanesque building restored in the 16th century. It has a magnificent altarpiece (a work of the artist Alonso Berruguete), and a painted statue of Christ dating from the 15th century. |

| Various lamb stews, such as "frite", "pestorejo" and "picadillo" are some of the main culinary specialties in Caceres. |
| Wild game is also popular. One dish particularly worthy of mention is partridge "a la Alcantara". |
| Another typical dish is "migas", a shepherd's meal which is served for breakfast or lunch. It is made from day-old bread broken into tiny pieces and usually served with bacon, peppers and fried garlic. |
| Sausages and cold cuts from the region are well known for their high quality, especially "pata negra" ham from Montañez and Piornal. In the cheese department, the "Torta de Casar" appellation of origin is especially tasty. |
| Typical local desserts include the traditional "bollos de chicharrones", "perrunillas", "repápalos de Torrejoncillo" and "monumentales de Alcántara". |

| The cities and towns of the province of Caceres offer a wide variety of arts and crafts: copper and brass products from Guadalupe, pipes made from heather or Gasco volcanic stone, bobbin lace and carved wooden figures from the Sierra de Gata mountains. |
| There are also the deservedly famous wicker products from Baños de Montemayor, chestnut baskets from Hervás, pottery from Ceclavín and Arroyo, and hats from Montehermoso. The region is also known for its leather tanning, marble and alabaster carving, and goldsmithing. |
| The shopping areas in the city of Caceres are concentrated around the Plaza Mayor (the gossip hub of Caceres), Pintores street, the Paseo de Canovas, Avenida de España, and Avenida de Alemania. There are also traditional outdoor markets on Wednesdays and Sundays, adding color and life to the center of the capital. |
