Places to See
Huelva Capital: its most outstanding monuments and places include: Reina Victoria Working-class District , a series of English style architecture family buildings built in 1917; La Merced Cathedral , founded in 1605 and made a cathedral in 1953; La Concepción church, built in the 16th century; San Marcos Castle , built in the 16th century and a magnificent example of the Renaissance style; La Rábida Monastery, turned into a Franciscan convent in the early 15th century.

Odiel Marshes Biological Reserve: Between the mouth of the rivers Tinto and Odiel, in the Andalusian province of Huelva, are the marshes of this Natural Scene. Their scenic, biological and especially ornithological wealth, has had them declared a National Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO (1983). However, it is also an Area of Special Protection for Birds (ZEPA) and is one of the wetlands of the RAMSAR agreement.

Los Enebrales Nature Lands: this is a strip of dunes which accompanies the beach along some 3 km. It spreads over a total 162 hectares and is covered by a forest of pines and junipers. The area is rich in fauna, and principally the colony of chameleons. When strolling along the paths, it is easy to see the animals hunting in the branches of the trees. Birds are also seen such as whitethroats, nightjars, cuckoos, hoopoes and stone curlews. A spectacular view is had from the top of the dunes. The magnificent view seemed between the green pine grove, the sienna colour of the sand, the blue sky and the Atlantic Ocean make up an incomparable framework.

The Portil Lagoon : is undoubtedly one of the star places of Punta Umbría, classified as a Nature Reserve. Located on the edge of the municipal area of Cartaya, the lagoon spreads over 15 hectares, 13 of which are protected. Surrounded by abundant vegetation of pines and broom, it is rich in fauna and especially water birds such as sultana birds, terns, mallards, plovers, herons and kingfishers. There are bird observatories and a path which goes around the lagoon through the forest. It is the forest which gives shelter to hoopoes, woodpeckers, great tits and blue tits, goldfinches and greenfinches, other finches and birds of prey such as the buzzard, as well as reptiles and mammals including chameleons and hedgehogs.

Doñana Nature Park : in the southeast of Spain in the provinces of Huelva, Seville and Cadiz, Doñana Nature Park is one of the most singular, richest areas in Europe. Flatlands between the ancient terraces of the river Guadalquivir. Heritage of Mankind, Biosphere Reserve, Diploma of the Council of Europe for Management and Preservation, Doñana has been and is a place impossible to define.

El Andévalo region in Huelva: in the centre of the province. Lovers of so-called gastronomic tourism will enjoy many of its villages, trying the products of Iberian pork and their dishes made with wild mushrooms and game. Special mention should be made of Tharsis and Minas de Rio tinto, which occupy the centre of the mining basin and in which you can go on a special railway trip, go into a mine, visit an authentic Victorian house and see the history of a region completely transformed by the mining activity in several museums and on guided tours.

Sierra de Huelva mountain range : The western end of Sierra Morena is a gently sloping eroded plain broken by chalky hills, some with grottoes, including the Gruta de las Maravillas de Aracena, with galleries of over 1 km which can be visited. It runs through the scenery rich in ilex groves and in the dampest areas, cork oaks; in these meadows. From Hinojales to Cortegana the scenery changes appreciably; the greyish green colours of the meadows are replaced by the brilliant greens of the chestnut groves in the summer and spring, and the pinks and browns in autumn and winter. Something not to be missed.

Seville Capital: the capital of Andalusia is one of the places of Spain most appreciated abroad. Although its Moslem architectural influence is most striking, as it was occupied by the Arabs for some 800 years, it had long before been an important cultural centre. Tourists can enjoy visits to its monuments such as La Giralda bell tower and The Cathedral; its famous bridges such as the Puente del V Centenario and Puente de las Delicias; and even a pleasant stroll along the banks of the River Guadalquivir.

Portuguese Algarve: The southernmost region in Portugal and one of the favourite European holiday destinations for the light of the round sun and excellent sandy beaches. It is also considered one of the best golf destinations in Europe.
Gastronomy
The Port of Huelva occupies a very important position on the so-called 'shellfish route'. Fresh prawns, shrimp and scampi arrive at its fish market daily, along with other marine species such as sea bream, gilthead, snapper, white bream, skate and sole.
This cornucopia of fresh catch is used to prepare such mouthwatering dishes as shark-meat with tomato, snapper and stewed onions; cuttlefish with broad beans and skate in paprika.
The mountain ranges of Huelva provide the finest cured hams in the country as well as a superb range of cured meats and other regional sausage products.
Dessert options include outstanding fresh fruits from the region, such as juicy Nava peaches, melons and watermelons from Cortegana, quince from Fuenteheridos, strawberries from Lepe. For real sweettooths, there is also "hornazo" sponge cake, "tocino de cielo" (a rich egg and caramel pudding) and little pastries from Moguer.
Shopping
The most typical traditional crafts of the region are baskets and panels woven from cane; carved wooden objects; cowboy boots and leather goods; rugs, fabrics, traditional costumes, fans and castanets.
In the capital, the main shopping areas can be found in the squares of Las Monjas, La Merced, Doce de Octubre and Punto, as well as the pedestrian-only street of La Concepción and the Isla Chica district. Besides a new commercial center has been opened in Huelva city: it is the Aqualon Puerto.
Every Friday, a traditional market is held on the site of Huelva's trade fairs. Other very appealing markets are held in some of the villages around the province, such as Aracena (on Saturdays) and Cortegana (on Fridays).
